Invitation design for New York City Ballet’s 2020 Annual Luncheon, Modern Masters.
The New York City Ballet Annual Luncheon takes place every spring. This year’s program was “Modern Masters.” Our two-person design team submitted several options, and this was the final concept, as selected by NYCB artistic directors Wendy Whelan and Jonathan Stafford.
I wanted to create an architectural layout and type lockup using NYCB’s signature DIN typeface. The modular lockup mirrors the angular movements in Merce Cunningham’s jaunty “Summerspace,” seen on the cover image. The pumpkin-colored Pantone was pulled from the Summerspace backdrop and from the costumes designed by Robert Rauschenberg.
